Marathon County Clerk Encourages Voters to Return Absentee Ballots by July 28th

Tuesday, July 14th, 2026 -- 8:00 AM

Marathon County Clerk Kim Trueblood, in partnership with municipal clerks across the county, is encouraging voters to return their absentee ballots well ahead of the August 11 Partisan Primary.

State law requires that all absentee ballots be received at polling locations by 8:00 p.m. on Election Day, and voters are strongly encouraged to mail their ballots no later than July 28 to help ensure they arrive on time.

“We continue to see ballots take up to two weeks to be returned to the municipality once they are mailed by the voter,” shared Trueblood. “I encourage voters to complete their absentee ballot, and if they choose to return it by mail, to do so with plenty of time before Election Day.” Voters concerned about mailing delays may choose to return their absentee ballot through other available options.

Ballots can be delivered directly to the municipal clerk’s office, placed in a municipal drop box (if available), brought to the voter’s polling location on Election Day, or returned through an official early in-person absentee voting location.

Please note that, unless you have a disability that prevents you from doing so, you must return your own ballot. A list of Marathon County municipalities with an absentee ballot drop box can be found at www.marathoncounty.gov/elections.
