'Wisconsin's' budget-writing committee was in Eau Claire Friday for a public hearing on what will likely be a very difficult spending bill.Joint Finance Committee members heard from hundreds of people at the hearing, which began at 10 a.m. and was scheduled to conclude at 4 p.m.
Michelle Fisher, a dental hygiene student at Chippewa Valley Technical College, gave an emotional testimony. She said financial aide helped her achieve her goals.
"I applied for financial aid, the aid I was awarded allowed me to get an education, to put food on the table, to support my daughter, to purchase a computer and medication," Fisher said.
"I will graduate in May," she said choking back tears, "I will no longer have to tell my daughter I have only $2.12 in my bank account. I ask you to consider you not taking that away from anyone else while crafting your budget," she said.
