Monday, June 29th, 2026 -- 8:00 AM

Visit Wausau is proud to announce that Executive Director Tim White has been named Trailblazer of the Year at the 2026 Wisconsin Governor’s Outdoor Industry Awards.

The Trailblazer of the Year Award recognizes an individual who has gone above and beyond to raise the profile of Wisconsin’s outdoor recreation industry. White was honored for his work helping communities recognize outdoor recreation as a driver of economic growth, quality of life and community identity, while bringing partners together around a shared vision for Greater Wausau as Wisconsin’s Basecamp.

“We are incredibly honored and excited to be nominated again this year for a number of the Governor’s Outdoor Recreation Industry Awards,” said Jamie Polley, Board President of Visit Wausau and Director of Wausau and Marathon County Parks, Recreation and Forestry.

“It is a testament to the amazing amenities our region has for both residents and visitors. It is especially exciting that our Executive Director, Tim White, was honored with the Trailblazer of the Year Award for the work he has put into moving Visit Wausau forward."

"In his five years with the organization, Tim has worked with the Board of Directors and partnering municipalities to reorganize the organization, strengthen its mission and vision, and put marketing the region above all."

"Through his networking, education and involvement with the Wisconsin Department of Tourism, Office of Outdoor Recreation, Destinations Wisconsin and many other organizations, he has made it a mission to elevate Wausau as a top destination in Wisconsin. Congratulations, Tim!”

White’s recognition reflects the broader work happening across Greater Wausau to connect outdoor recreation, tourism, local businesses, arts, culture and community development into a stronger destination.
