Merrillan Woman Sentenced for 7th OWI

Friday, June 5th, 2026 -- 1:01 PM

(WEAU Staff) A Merrillan woman arrested for 7th OWI was sentenced in Jackson County Court, according to WEAU staff.

According to a press release from the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office, on Dec. 10, 2024, they received a report of a possible intoxicated driver leaving a gas station in the City of Black River Falls.

The press release says the witness reported the car leaving the parking lot after almost striking a pole. A deputy with the Sheriff’s Office found the vehicle matching the description.

Due to witnessing poor driving, the deputy conducted a traffic stop. The driver was identified to be Nichole Waughtal of Merrillan. According to the press release, Waughtal showed signs of impairment and failed field sobriety tests.

During her court appearance on Thursday, she was found guilty of, due to a no contest plea, 7th OWI. Another charge was dismissed on the court’s own motion. She was sentenced to four years in prison and three years of extended supervision.

She also had her license revoked for 36 months and must have an ignition interlock device for 36 months.
