CANDLES NEW TO ADS

Despite the tough economy, Clark County?s Adult Development Services director thinks he smells a winner with their new line of scented candles.ADS, located in Greenwood, is a non-profit community rehabilitation program providing work opportunities to a wide range of individuals with developmental, physical, and mental disabilities.
"We do this through a variety of contracts and outsourcing we do in various businesses, organizations around the area," Brent Shoup explains, "We also have some major commercial food contracts with county agencies."
There are around 80 individuals working with ADS.
Their biggest product is Clark Pizza. They make over a dozen varieties of the frozen pizza that?s a staple at many area grocery stores and eating establishments.
"Clark Pizzas we've been doing since around about 1986," he says, "Gradually, it got bigger and bigger. Right now, we have more than ninety customers in a 75-mile radius of Greenwood."
But, sensing the economy was contracting, Shoup started to look for another product. They came up with Greenwood?s Candles.
"We've produced about 400 to 500 candles. It seems to be going well," Shoup says.
The eco-friendly candles are made from a soy-based product and are not dyed.
They're currently only available through area fundraisers, but future plans might include an on-line store and direct sales through local retailers.
