One Person Killed in Wood County Crash After High Speed Chase with Law Enforcement
Tuesday, May 26th, 2026 -- 4:00 PM
On May 25, 2026 at approximately 8:04 pm an officer with the Grand Rapids Police Department attempted to stop a vehicle which fled.
After pursuing the vehicle for a short period of time the officer terminated the pursuit. The Wood County Communications Center then received a call of a one vehicle crash on Church Ave west of CTH Z several miles from where the pursuit was terminated. This vehicle matched the description of the vehicle which had earlier fled.
The investigation revealed the vehicle had been west bound on Church Ave at a high rate of speed. The vehicle then lost control leaving the roadway to the north where it struck trees and a utility pole. The lone occupant of the vehicle was pronounced deceased on scene. This incident is still currently under investigation.
The Wood County Sheriff's Department was assisted on scene by the following: Wood County Rescue, Wisconsin State Patrol, Grand Rapids Police Department, Nekoosa Police Department, Port Edwards Police Department, Wisconsin Rapids Police Department, Wisconsin Rapids Ambulance, Saratoga First Responders, Nekoosa Fire Department, and Tom Lin and Son Towing
