Neillsville Police Chief Brad Lindner says an area resident lost $2,000 in a phone scam.A caller stated the man won a monetary prize of $150,000. The scammer then informed the victim he had to wire money to Jamaica to start the transaction and then have the money transferred to the U.S.
The other scam involves a caller identifying himself as the victim?s grandchild. The scammer uses the real names of the individuals. The caller then tells the recipient he's in Canada and needs money wired to him. In the latest version of this scam, the caller requested $4,200.
Lindner reminds folks to be vigilant in evaluating contacts where people are asking for money. Most reputable organizations would never seek money via the telephone.
