Neillsville City Council Approves a Resolution to Send to the Governor

The Neillsville City Council approved a resolution to send to the Governor’s office.

The resolution supports a comprehensive and sustainable transportation funding solution. Director of Public Works Luke Friemoth presented Sydney Hand’s request under Sec. 450-16 to keep up to ten (10 hens) chickens at 1010 Emery Street.

This property is .56 acres over five lots. Sydney Hand is applicant and owner. The Council approved to grant Sydney Hand, applicant and owner, permission for 1010 Emery Street, to have up to ten (10 hens) chickens, no roosters, subject to review if complaints are received or excess numbers of animals occur.

City Clerk Debbie Winder reporting on receiving the following donations from the Listeman Foundation: $6,250 for the C.C. Sniteman Park Town Square clock tower repair, $3,000 for the steam engine in Schuster Park restoration, $1,000 for the Beautification Committee for America’s 250th Birthday decorations, $10,000 for City Hall signage, $3,500 for 4th of July fireworks, and $5,000 for Heritage Days. The Council approved the donations and distributed them to the proper account.

Mayor Dewey Poeschel reported on receiving a resignation letter from Logan Grap from the Library Board effective June 30th, which the Council accepted and thanked him for his service.

Chief of Police Jim Mankowski reported on training, squad car maintenance, parking enforcement, citations, warnings, office activity, officer activities, officer assists, business patrols and contract policing.

The Council also heard the various committee reports from the past couple weeks. Council Member Barb Petkovsek reported on the April 27, 2026 meeting of the Beautification Committee regarding:

  • Discussion on Christmas/Winter decorations,
  • Discussion on Veteran’s flags,
  • Reviewed weeding schedule,
  • Reviewed 2026 donation letters,
  • And discussion on placing an ad for Spring flower donations.

Council Member Petkovsek reported on the April 28, 2026 meeting of the Grants Committee regarding:

  • Update on Technology Committee,
  • Discussion on Housing Loan program and the TID #3 extension,
  • And review and updating the list of grants in progress.

Council Member Donna Pavlac reported on the April 30, 2026 meeting of the Heritage Days Committee regarding:

  • Update on Glow Run, Legion events and booked kids events,
  • Discussion on and approval of working on mural pending times scheduled,
  • Update on volleyball tournament,
  • Updated on posters and shirts,
  • And discussion on beer vendors.

Council Member Bill Neville reported on the May 12, 2026 meeting of the Library Board regarding:

  • Librarians’ reports,
  • Discussion on setting a date with the Personnel Committee for interviewing for the Substitute/Assistant position,
  • Discussion on Library Board members joining the celebration for America’s 250th anniversary during Heritage Days,
  • Payment of bills,
  • Updates on donations and carryover funds,
  • And upcoming community events.

Council Member Dan Clough reported on the May 12, 2026 meeting of the Commission on Public Works/Utilities regarding current activities.
