School District of Thorp Awarded Mental Health America of Wisconsin Peer-to-Peer School-Based Suicide Prevention Grant
Tuesday, May 12th, 2026 -- 10:00 AM
The School District of Thorp has been awarded the Mental Health America of Wisconsin (MHA-WI) Peer-to-Peer School-based Suicide Prevention Grant and that Hope Squad is coming to Thorp next year.
Hope squad is an evidence based, peer-to-peer suicide prevention program, dedicated to spreading hope and creating a school culture that promotes connectedness and inclusivity.
The Hope Squad will be led by the school counselors, Mrs. Collins and Mrs. Stewart, who participated in two days of training to get us prepared for next year's launch. The Squad will also be composed of students selected by their peers for their kindness, approachability, and trustworthiness to help prevent mental health crises among their peers.
Student nominations for next year's Hope Squad are currently underway. They look forward to bringing mental health out of the dark, and spreading much kindness, positivity, and HOPE next school year.
The District extends their gratitude to Mrs. Stewart and Mrs. Collins for their efforts in applying for the MHA-WI grant and for providing this valuable opportunity for our students.
