Columbus Catholic High School hosted its 12th Annual Cutting for a Cause hair donation event on Wednesday, May 6, bringing together students, families, and community members to support Children With Hair Loss.
A total of 31 donors participated in this year’s effort, including 15 who took part in the in-person event, donating their hair to help children and young adults experiencing medically related hair loss.
Since the event began in 2014, Columbus Catholic donors have contributed more than 1,400 ponytails, making a meaningful impact in the lives of children across the country. During the event, volunteer stylists measured, prepared, and cut donors’ hair as classmates, families, and staff gathered to support participants.
The event concluded with a group photo celebrating the donors and volunteers. The event began with remarks from Columbus Catholic fourth grade teacher Becca Herman, whose daughter Ashley, a Columbus Catholic graduate, was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s lymphoma during her senior year in 2021.
Herman shared how organizations such as Children With Hair Loss help children and families facing the emotional challenges of medical hair loss. “This event today provides people who are already dealing with enough, the opportunity to feel normal,” Herman said.
“Cutting for a Cause is a powerful way for our students and community to live out their faith through service and compassion,” said Mandy Volkman, event coordinator. “It is inspiring to see so many individuals come together to make a difference.”
Hair collected during the event will be donated to Children With Hair Loss, a nonprofit organization that provides human hair replacements at no cost to children and young adults facing medically related hair loss.
