Child Suffers Non-Life-Threatening Injuires on Monday After Being Hit by Wausau MetroRide Bus Near John Muir Middle School

Tuesday, May 5th, 2026 -- 2:01 PM

(Mike Leischner, WSAU) -A child suffered non-life-threatening injuries on Monday after they were hit by a Wausau MetroRide bus near John Muir Middle School.

It happened at about 7:30 AM near the intersection of 12th Avenue and Callon Street, according to Wausau Police. The child had just been dropped off near the school and was crossing the road when they were hit by an oncoming bus. The child was taken to a Wausau hospital for treatment. Both the child’s family and the bus driver are cooperating with the investigation, according to police.

Because the incident involves a city agency (MetroRide), the Marathon County Sheriff’s Office is leading the investigation. No further information has been released at this time. The Wausau School District is providing services to students as needed.
