Friday, April 24th, 2026 -- 12:00 PM

Cops and Bobbers will be returning to Lee Lake in Jackson County on June 6th from 8am-Noon.
Jackson County law enforcement will be participating in the event once again. I spoke with Shaun Lescher, one of the organizers of the event, and he discussed Cops and Bobbers in more detail.
Listen to the interview with Shaun here!
Once again, the event is being held on Saturday, June 6th from 8am-Noon and you can register by using the QR code on the flyer or contact Drop Shot Foundations at 715-299-5957.

Shaun: "So, it's an opportunity where individuals get to fish with our first responders and we have quite a few different departments, so it's either the sheriff's department, the police departments. We have the State Patrol. We have other members as well, even the Jackson County institution, all of them come and provide some supports."
"But more importantly, it's, it's for us to give back to the community. And by that, I mean it's an opportunity for kids, or, I don't care if you're five or 85 if you want to learn something, I'm not going to turn you back."
"It's an opportunity to learn to cast different techniques, beta hook safely. And then, if you catch a fish, how to release the fish safely. And then we have different educational booths for kids to learn different ideas, if you will, outside of the fishing community.
Riley: "So can you talk a little bit about how you got involved in getting this program going in Jackson County?"
Shaun: "It goes back, a while back there was always this opportunity that they called it Coffee With A Cop in Black River Falls. And just randomly, one day I started thinking, I go, 'What about a fishing event with our first responders?'"
"And then start building up momentum there. I got involved with our game warden. We were bouncing ideas around, and we are only at our third annual event, so we're still learning the ropes."
"But quite honestly, the first events was such a success, and then to have the number of individuals that we had last year for June 2025, was even more impressive. So we knew my wife and I knew we were on the right track of what we were doing."
Riley: "All right, excellent. And I was looking at the article because your program was featured, actually, in the Bassmaster magazine, which is nationwide, which is very cool. And it said that last year you had over 50 kids. That's pretty impressive for a program that's kind of just getting started.
Shaun: "Yeah, yeah, the Bassmaster, it was quite the honor for them to reach out and say, Hey, we want to write about what you did. And I'm going all right, trying to be put on the spotlight here. But it was, it was quite the honor, and they did a very well job."
"Christopher, who was the writer, did phenomenal and always a good experience with Bassmaster. But 54 kids last year. Count the parents and our volunteers. We had over 150 people down at Lee Lake in Milston."
Riley: "That's very impressive. And now, as you said, this year is going to be your third year. Can you let our listeners know, in case they're interested in being a part of it or attending? When is that going to be held this year?"
Shaun: "It will be Saturday, June 6 and that's the free fishing weekend. So, you don't get a license. You come on down. The sign up is free. Just ask that you fill out a disclaimer, just for insurance things and things like that. But any volunteers, they would probably reach out to me rather than our game warden. He's busy enough, so I take on the bulk of those phone calls if, if need be."
Riley: "And will it be held at Lee Lake again this year?"
Shaun: "Yes."
Riley: "So, if people aren't familiar with the area, can you kind of give directions on how they could how they get to that location?"
Shaun: "So, you can take the, if you're coming up from Eau Claire or even the Neillsville area, head on 94 and head south towards Madison and then look for the exit that says Milston."
"And you blink, you miss it. It's a small town, but it'll be right off of the Highway and it'll be on the left hand side and we have everything set up there by the beach. And we'll have signs out everything like that."
"If you're coming from the south, and I've had individuals from Janesville come up, so past Madison, continue up as if you're heading to Black River Falls and it'll be that exit on the right hand side, Milston, make a left and continue straight, and you'll see the signs."
Riley: "Is there anything else, anything else you'd like our listeners to know about in regards to the cops and bobbers event coming up?"
Shaun: "It's it's been an absolute honor to be a part of it. We have quite a few raffle items, different brands, Vortex, Matthews. We have kayaks, we have scooters. We have quite a few items."
"But more importantly is the support from the local community, the small businesses that come together and donate door prizes for us, and we make sure that everyone gets recognized, whether it's a video, but also at the event itself. So, it really does go a long way all the support that we've had, especially just after two events."
