City of Marshfield Approves Some Budget Items at Recent City Council Meeting

The Marshfield City Council approved some budget items at their recent meeting.

The Council approved:

  • Carry forward of $18,789 in Fire Department funds from 2025 to 2026 for training and equipment
  • Funding for architectural and engineering services for the Columbia Park band shell restoration
  • $100,000 in 2026 funding to support the recruitment of a Community Development Director

Ordinances – First Readings

  • Updates to subdivision and platting regulations to comply with state law
  • Revisions to the solid waste and recycling code to align with state requirements

Both items will return for a second reading.

Municipal Court Vacancy

The Council approved an order for a special election to fill the Municipal Court Judge position. The election will occur later in 2026, with the term beginning in April 2027.

Strategic Planning

Staff presented a draft strategic planning framework outlining priorities for infrastructure, economic development, staffing, financial stability, community engagement, and quality of life. The Council will continue review and refinement.

Oak Avenue Community Center

The Council discussed proposed lease agreements for community organizations using the Oak Avenue Community Center, including a phased fee approach.

Arbor Day Proclamation

Mayor Lois TeStrake read a proclamation recognizing Arbor Day on April 16, 2026. The event included a tree planting at Braem Park in partnership with local participants.

Public Comment

Residents and representatives from Marshfield Youth Football, Gus Gym, and the Marshfield Civic Band spoke regarding proposed lease and storage fees at the Oak Avenue Community Center. Comments focused on operational impacts and financial considerations for community organizations.
