City of Marshfield Advising Residents that the City's Out Warning Siren System is Currently Not Operational

Thursday, April 16th, 2026 -- 9:00 AM

The City of Marshfield is advising residents that the City’s outdoor warning siren system is currently not operational due to a technical issue with the radio system used to communicate with the sirens.

Prior to the first round of storms on Monday evening, April 13, 2026, it was brought to the City’s attention that one Marshfield storm siren was not working. A service request was initiated for that location, and an initial evaluation found the siren equipment to be in proper working order.

On Wednesday, April 15, 2026, the City was notified again that testing at that same location had failed. A more in-depth review was then conducted throughout the City of Marshfield, and Wood County performed multiple attempts to test the siren system.

During that process, it was determined that none of the outdoor warning sirens were sounding. The City has been in contact with Wood County Emergency Management and the Wood County Communications Center, which are actively working to identify and resolve the technical issue. At this time, there is no estimated timeline for when the system will be restored.

Important Public Safety Information

Outdoor warning sirens are intended primarily to alert people who are outdoors to approaching severe weather and other emergencies. Because the siren system is currently unavailable, residents are strongly encouraged to use alternate methods to receive emergency alerts, including:

  • NOAA Weather Radio
  • Wood County Everbridge Emergency Alert Program

The Everbridge program is designed to notify subscribed users of emergencies occurring in their area, including:

  • Severe storms
  • Tornadoes
  • Flooding
  • 911 outages
  • Other emergency situations requiring public notification

Residents can receive alerts by phone call and text message.

Updates will be shared through the City’s official social media platforms once the outdoor warning siren system is operational again.
