This Week is National Public Health Week: Clark County Health Department Names Recipient of "Friend of Public Health" Award
Monday, April 6th, 2026 -- 10:01 AM

Public Health is the science of protecting and improving the health of people and the communities where they live, work, and play.
This work is carried out by a broad network of public, private, and volunteer partners who help deliver essential public health services throughout the community. Public health can’t succeed in isolation.
Strong partnerships and community advocacy are critical to advancing and sustaining effective public health programs. The American Public Health Association (APHA) observes National Public Health Week annually during the first week of April.
Communities across the country pause to recognize public health achievements. In recognition of this week, the Clark County Health Department (CCHD) honors outstanding individuals or organizations with its annual “Friend of Public Health” award, celebrating those who have made meaningful contributions in improving the health of Clark County residents.
This year, the CCHD is proud to recognize Dr. Maryann Forsell, dentist with the Family Health Center-Neillsville, as the 2026 award recipient! Dr. Forsell played a positive and meaningful role in the county as two municipalities evaluated whether to continue community water fluoridation, one of which voted to continue fluoridation.
Dr. Forsell’s Contributions:
- Attended multiple city council meetings to provide education to residents and council members, offer expert guidance, and answer questions to help inform community decisions
- Prepared and submitted letters of support to council members when unable to attend meetings in person
- Supported grassroots outreach through co-hosted radio interviews
- Consistently served as a trusted local health professional throughout the process
- Overall champion for public health with notable leadership in oral health, particularly supporting the continuation of community water fluoridation
The CCHD would also like to thank all of our partners who have contributed to promoting health in Clark County.
