Clark County Sheriff's Department Arrests One for Shooting at a Home

Tuesday, March 31st, 2026 -- 2:01 PM

On Saturday March 28 th 2026, at about 2:34pm, the Clark County Sheriff’s Office received a call about someone shooting at their home and 4-wheeler on Pray Ave in the Township of Washburn.

The caller believed he knew who did the shooting and described the vehicle they were driving when they left. Officers arrived at the residence and saw several shell casings in the driveway.

While Officers were processing the scene and talking to neighbors, the suspect was seen driving past the residence. Officers tried to stop the suspect, later identified as Desmond L. Smith (25 years old), and got into a chase with Desmond.

Desmond eventually crashed his vehicle after traveling several miles and ran into the nearby woods. With the help of residents, Desmond was located and arrested without incident. Officers located the handgun involved in the incident near the location of the arrest. Desmond was then transported to jail.

Desmond was charged with two felonies, Vehicle Operator Flee/Elude Officer and 2 nd Degree Recklessly Endangering Safety and several misdemeanor crimes to include:

  • Discharging a Firearm with-in 100 Yards of a Building,
  • Criminal Damage to Property,
  • Operate Firearm While Intoxicated,
  • Disorderly Conduct with use of a Dangerous Weapon,
  • OWI 3rd,
  • Resisting or Obstruction of a Officer,
  • And two counts of Bail Jumping.

Desmond was given a $7,500 cash bond and appeared by video from the Clark County Jail. No other information is being released at this time.
