STATE TREASURER COMING TO NEILLSVILLE

Tuesday, February 17th, 2009 -- 11:42 AM

Central Wisconsin Broadcasting is bringing State Treasurer Dawn Marie Sass to Russell?s of Neillsville Wednesday. She?ll be there from noon to 3 p.m. She?ll bring along the state's database of residents owed unclaimed property.

Wisconsin has over $328-million of unclaimed property.

Over one-million people are owed unclaimed property.

"It could be anything from a safe-deposit box someone forgot about, or if a person forgot to get one of their checks cashed at their last job. It could be anything someone forgot to receive at some point," says Eva Robelia, with the Office of the Treasurer.

There are over 500 Neillsville residents alone that have unclaimed property. Around 2,200 in Clark County, records show.

The state holds the assets indefinitely, but physical property is liquidated periodically to make room in the state's vault.

"We just had our latest EBAY auction where we auctioned off property, such as rings and necklaces, because our vault can only hold so many items at a time," she says.

The proceeds of the sale are held, should the rightful owner ever come forward.

Also Wednesday, we can sign you up for the state's No-Call List? it's a very simple and quick procedure.

And, Memorial Medical Center has agreed to stop down to do free blood pressure screenings.
