Angie: "We are a faith based women's shelter that helps those who are hurting from the effects of abuse and addiction. Our mission is equipping women through the love of Christ to rebuild, renew, and restore their lives from the effects of domestic abuse and addiction."
"We offer a nine month recovery program that centers around recognizing and ending destructive patterns caused by past hurts and other issues. Students learn ways to have a new life, founded in principles for healthy Christian living and then after that, we also offer a transitional housing program that graduates of the nine month program can apply for."
"This allows for living in a sober and structured environment as they continue their journey towards total restoration and achieve their vision of wholeness based on the principles of Christian maturity."
Riley: "Coming up on April 25 you're going to have the Run for Hope. Can you kind of let people know the location, the time and how the run works, because this works a little differently, I guess, than most runs people would probably think of."
Angie: "Run for Hope will be on Saturday, April 25 from 9am to 11am at Wildwood Park in Marshfield, registration starting at 8am, so, like you mentioned, it is different, because it is a peer-to-peer fundraiser, which means each registrant is going to be asking family and friends to support them as they participate in the race."
"And we're asking each participant to set a goal and we were suggesting about $1,000 per participant. And this is, by the way, also it is a fun run/walk, with the option to select either a 5k or a one mile. So, if you're not super athletic like me, you can walk, you can walk one mile. But then, of course, we do have the more adventurous folks who like to run the 5k so this year, our goal is $56,000."
Riley: "And now you do have some special prizes or incentives that people can shoot for if they participate. Can you touch on those?"
Angie: "While we do give prizes for like the fastest runners, etc, we do focus more on who raises the most donations. So, for every $100 that a participant raises, he or she are entered into a drawing for prizes, prizes that are donated by local businesses. And then our grand prize is a Wisconsin Dells water park package."
Riley: "And now, if people are interested in being involved or getting entered, how do they do that?"
Angie: "They can go to our website, shirleyshouseofhope.org, there you will find, right on our main, main homepage, the scrolling banner. We'll have a little icon there where you can click the link to register as an individual and create your own personal fundraiser page. But then you also do have the option to create a team or join an existing team or register your entire family. And then the deadline to register to get the free T shirt is March 31."
Riley: "And now, if there's some individuals out there who maybe they would like to get involved, but they don't necessarily want to do the run or the walk, are you looking for volunteers to help?"
Angie: "Yes, absolutely. We do need a lot of different volunteers. Just give us a call, and we will help you get set up. I also wanted to mention too, that if you're not really interested in the event and you just want to make a donation, you can do that, and especially if you know somebody who is participating, they might reach out to you and say, 'Hey, I'm going to be walking for a mile at the at the Run for Hope. And will you sponsor me?' And that would also be an opportunity to support the cause without, without having to go to the event."
Riley: "Anything else? Any final thoughts?"
Angie: " We are still looking for sponsors. So, if your business organization or your church is interested in being a sponsor, we have sponsorship packages from $300 and up and then also, I know I mentioned that we are giving away prizes, and so we're looking for donations of those prizes from local businesses or that can be used as a raffle basket."
"And then also we have loot bags that we hand out to each participant. So, we're looking for items that we can put in there, like snacks, or if you have, like local items that you have, we would love to take those off your hands and put them in our loot bags."
"And the very last thing I wanted to mention, too is that we are actually partnering with the UW-SP Century School of Business and Economics project management class, which is a group of students who are working on their MBA in project management. They've been helping us out looking for ways to help us enhance our event this year. So, we wanted to give them a real quick thank you."
