Wednesday, March 4th, 2026 -- 2:01 PM

The Marshfield Area Pet Shelter (MAPS) is bringing back its annual Pet Clinic on Saturday, March 21, 2026, from 9:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at the Lang Building, Marshfield Fairgrounds (513 E 17th St, Marshfield, WI).

I spoke with Karen Rau, Executive Director at the Marshfield Area Pet Shelter, and she discussed the Pet Clinic in more detail.

Listen to the interview with Karen here!

Again, the clinic is being held on Saturday, March 21st from 9am-11:30am at the Lang Building at the Marshfield Fairgrounds. Pre-registration is appreciated and if you have any questions or need more information, you can head to the Marshfield Area Pet Shelter’s website (https://www.marshfieldpetshelter.org/) or contact the shelter, 715-486-5140.

Karen: "So, this year's event, yes, is Saturday March 21st. The clinic is being held from nine in the morning till 11:30am. We are going to be having it at the Marshfield fairgrounds again this year and it's going to be in the Lang Building."

"We just didn't have the accommodations here at the shelter to pull it off and so the Marshfield Area Kennel Club was gracious enough to allow us to use their space at the fairgrounds for the second year in a row. So, we're really excited to have this clinic and we're grateful that they're allowing us to use that facility."

Riley: "What kind of services are being offered at the clinic?"

Karen: "I think the most popular is the rabies vaccine. This year we're offering the rabies vaccine for $20 and we are including a free microchip. We really feel it's important that people get their pets microchipped."

"In order to promote that, we thought this year we would include it with the vaccine price. So, the rabies vaccine is $20 and a free microchip. If people want just want a microchip only, they can register for that too."

"We will provide just microchips at $15 and then, of course, we partner with the City of Marshfield so that people in the city limits can get their pet licenses at this clinic. So Kayla, our Ordinance Officer, will be there to doing the City of Marshfield pet licenses."

Riley: "And now, when it comes to payment for those services, it is cash payments only, correct?"

Karen: "Correct, yes, we're just doing cash payments. We won't have the ability to take credit cards and we don't take checks, so cash payments only. And then, of course, we want to make sure that everybody brings their dog on a leash and their cats in a carrier to keep everybody safe there at the clinic."

"The other thing is, is that the pets need to be at least three months old to receive their rabies vaccine. So, we got to make sure that those pets are at least three months old."

"And then the three year rabies is available to pet owners if they can provide proof that their pet was vaccinated and that that rabies vaccine is not expired. So, people can get the three year rabies if they can provide previous vaccination history."

Riley: "And this year you prefer that people pre-register, correct?"

Karen: "Yes, that is something that we're trying this year. We discovered, the last couple of years that we hosted this clinic, it takes a long time for us to collect paperwork in those lines and, to expedite this a little bit more this year, we have a form online that people can pre-register and, if they pre-register, then that information is going to be in our system ahead of time and they're going to be served first, so they're going to go ahead of the line."

"So, yes, we're really promoting people to sign up ahead of time and all that information is on our website. It's a real easy form to fill out. We prefer that everybody try to get that filled out ahead of time."

Riley: "Anything else?"

Karen: "We just really feel strongly about having this clinic every year. We want to make sure that we're providing resources to our community. The community supports us, so we want to make sure that we're giving back to the people that support us."

"And again, we just want to make sure that people's pets are taken care of and this is a way for us to give back to our community and make sure that those pets are vaccinated."
