Two Granton Teens' Birthday Blood Drive Returns March 19th

Tuesday, February 24th, 2026 -- 10:01 AM

Central Wisconsin continues to face a severe blood shortage, and two Granton teens remain dedicated to helping combat this life-threatening crisis.

Caleb and Abby Schoessow will host their 5th Annual Birthday Blood Drive on Thursday, March 19, 2026, from Noon–6:00 PM at Zion Lutheran Church (LCMS) in Granton. The twins aim to collect 80 units of blood, potentially impacting more than 240 lives.

The event is held in partnership with the Versiti Blood Center of Wisconsin, the exclusive blood supplier to Marshfield Medical Center and more than 50 hospitals across the state, along with Granton High School’s National Honor Society.

Community members are encouraged to donate and should know the following: Individuals previously ineligible due to certain medical conditions or prescription medications may now qualify to donate.

Anyone 16 years or older, weighing at least 110 pounds, and in good health can donate. All blood types are needed, especially O positive, O negative, and double red cell donations to help address the national blood shortage.

As a special thank-you, Caleb and Abby will present birthday gifts to the oldest and youngest donors of the day. Personal Impact of Blood Shortages Now college sophomores, Caleb attending UW–Stevens Point and Abby attending St. Norbert College, their dedication to the cause is deeply personal. Several years ago, their mother was diagnosed with breast cancer and required a life-saving blood transfusion during treatment.

“What started as a birthday idea has grown into something much bigger than us,” Caleb said. “Seeing our community come together year after year reminds us how powerful small acts of kindness can be."

"Over the past four years, we’ve collected more than 230 units of blood, impacting over 690 people. Now that I’m away at college, I can see even more how impactful our small community is. You don’t have to wait until you’re older to make a difference, students can lead real change in their communities."

For Abby, the mission is equally meaningful. Born with a rare disease, she underwent multiple surgeries as a toddler and understands firsthand the importance of a stable blood supply.

“As I learn more about healthcare in college, I better understand how critical blood donations are,” Abby said. “Behind every unit collected is a patient and a family hoping for more time together. When something impacts you personally, you realize the actions you take today can positively affect someone else’s tomorrow. If our blood drive helps even one person, it’s worth it.”

What to Bring: A blood donor card or driver’s license is required at check-in. Amish donors without photo identification may bring two documents verifying their name and address.

Registration Information: Walk-ins are welcome, but appointments are encouraged. To schedule a donation: Call: 877-232-4376, Register Online: Versiti Blood Center of Wisconsin website.

If an appointment time is unavailable, please contact Courtney Schoessow at 715-937-0856 for assistance. Community members are invited to celebrate Caleb and Abby’s birthday by giving the ultimate gift, the gift of life.
