Neillsville School Board Discusses Petition to Detach Parcel of Property From Loyal School District and Attach to Neillsville

The Neillsville School Board began their meeting on Monday with a public hearing to hear a petition by Dale and Sadie Seif to detach a parcel of property from the School District of Loyal and attach it to the School District of Neillsville.
Board President Sue Voigt opened the public hearing on a petition to alter school district boundaries and described the purpose of the hearing. Property owners Dale and Sadie Seif were not present.
Sue Voigt invited anyone who would like to speak in support or against the petition to come forward, but no one in attendance at the hearing came forward to speak.
Corey Peterson reviewed the details of the petition and outlined the potential impact of its approval. He noted that he hadn’t received any written statements in favor or against the petition.
Sue Voigt closed the public hearing on the Seif petition to alter school district boundaries. Corey Peterson presented information to the board on various factors that affect all of the children in the districts impacted by the proposed reorganization such as:
- The geographical characteristics of the districts;
- The educational needs of the children in the districts;
- The potential adverse effect on the district where the property would be detached;
- The fiscal impact of the reorganization;
- And the socio-economic level of the students involved.
Board members were given an opportunity to ask questions and deliberate. The Board adopted a resolution denying the petition for detachment of the land described in the petition filed by Dale and Sadie Seif from the School District of Loyal and attaching it to the School District of Neillsville.
The Board then approved the 2026-2027 school year calendar option identified as 8A1 in the board packet. The Board also approved the 2026-2027 Expanded Course Offerings Handbook and approved the 2026-2027 RVA Handbooks and Course Offerings as presented.
The Board also approved some donations including the monetary donation from Becca Bernhagen in the amount of $200, the donation of nitrile gloves and lunch bags from Atmus Filtration, t-shirts from JBC Screenprinting, $300 monetary donation from Unity Bank toward Lunch with Loved Ones, and the $800 monetary donation from Mayville Engineering Company.
In employment matters, the Board approved the resignation of Meghan Force from her food service assistant position, Kali Lien from her middle school English teaching position, and Reed Lehman from his JV baseball coaching position.
The Board also approved the hiring of Kate Schumacher for the food service assistant position, Alex Bloch for the JV baseball coaching position, Jessica Brown for the HS/MS assistant cross country coaching position, and Kate Hare for the varsity volleyball coaching position.
The Board also approved the Memorandum of Understanding for leave for Jessica Scheider and the Memorandum of Understanding for leave for Marcy Kunze.
Finally, the Board heard the Administrators’ Reports. Elementary Principal Marcy Kunze reported on:
- The monthly character trait; data meetings;
- Distribution of 4K information;
- 4K registration night on March 4th;
- School tours;
- Lunch with Loved Ones;
- And thanks to substitute teachers.
Middle School Principal Jesse Bernhagen reported on:
- Small group interventions;
- No Chromebook Week;
- Competitions for the MS traveling trophy;
- And the eighth graders’ involvement in ACP Night.
High School Principal Jennifer Aspenson reported on:
- Course registrations for 2026-2027;
- Laude awards;
- And the FFA District Speaking Contest.
Transportation Director Adam Krause reported on:
- The Lynx tablet;
- Storage solutions in the bus garage;
- Bus fueling issues and options going forward;
- Preparing fleet information for review;
- And developing a vehicle maintenance process.
Building and Grounds Director Mark Spencer reported on:
- Updating the air system in the woods and auto shop area;
- The upcoming replacement of the electrical room doors;
- And the Capstone class looking forward to resuming work outdoors.
District Administrator Corey Peterson reported on:
- The upgrade to online registration for next year;
- RFP for strategic planning services;
- CWETN meeting notes;
- 2026 WI State Education Convention review;
- And an AGR update.
