(Read February 12th, 19th, 26th, & March 5th) The Marshfield Fire & Rescue Department invites community members to take part in Flash Point on April 11th from 9am-5pm at the Marshfield Fire & Rescue Department.

Flash Point is a hands-on, behind-the-scenes experience designed to show you what they do and why they do it. I spoke with a member of the Marshfield Fire Department and he discussed the event in more detail.

Listen to the interview about Flash Point here!

Once again, Flash Point is being held on Saturday, April 11th from 9am-5pm at the Marshfield Fire & Rescue Department. Again, class sizes are limited to 12 participants and you can learn more or sign up by contacting the Marshfield Fire Department at 715-486-2094 or heading to their Facebook page.

Marshfield FD: "Flash Point is kind of an evolved, more modern take on what used to be our Citizens Fire Academy. We took what Citizens Fire Academy used to be, like, once a week for, like, a month, month and a half, and so we took all that and streamlined it into a single day process."

"And the whole goal behind it is to get the citizens of Marshfield to really know, like, what we do and what we're capable of doing. So that way, if they have any questions at all, it can all be answered."

"And we kind of give a whole both the fireside and EMS side of the house, as well as, like, our history and why we do what we do and why we might need what we need."

Riley: "If someone attend the event, what can they expect to see?"

Marshfield FD: "Like I said, it's a pretty streamlined process, so we start out the morning with, like, a fire station tour, as well as one of our guys was putting together, like, a quick PowerPoint presentation on, like, our history. So, I mean, I haven't seen it myself yet, but I'm pretty sure they'll go over, like the great Marshfield fire and stuff like that."

"And then that'll be followed shortly after that with we have like, a full EMS call that's like a skit, so like, they'll be sitting back and watching us run through a full call from beginning to end."

"So, that way they can see a lot of the skills we do on the ambulance. And we really try to give that feeling. We try to portray some of the stress that we go through on a call and then that way we can, they can ask questions about that."

"Then right after that, we go right into like a little mock skill station, where, if someone wants to see what it's like to try to intubate a mannequin or to work with some of the skills that we do on a regular basis, they can see what it's like to do that."

"Then after that, we would break for lunch. We actually had a member of our community come forward and sponsor lunch for us. The lunch is paid for by Midwest Restoration."

"And then in the afternoon, we'll actually be moving from the fire department to our training center, where we'll go, where we have a, well, a fire presentation, where we'll be actually burning like it's kind of like a dollhouse, but it'll show where we how we control the flow of air through a structure to help us control what goes on inside of a burning building."

"And then after that, we'll be going over fire trucks and like, our fire gear and stuff that we do to use to protect the citizens here, so that way they know, like, what their tax paying money is going for."

Riley: "Who can attend this event?"

Marshfield FD: "as of right now, we have, the only restrictions we have is you have to be a Marshfield resident, and you have to be over the age of 18. And that's more like, like I mentioned, it's more so make sure that our tax base understands where their money is going and that they're that they fully understand what's going, like, where it's going, and how it's being used, and what, how we put all this stuff to you."

Riley: "If people are interested in attending, they do have to register, correct?"

Marshfield FD: "Yeah, currently, we put down a minimum of six and a max of 12 for the class size, and you have to call the station here to register at a first come first serve basis."
