Marshfield Common Council Hears Update on Condition of the Weinbrenner Building

The Marshfield Common Council heard an update on the condition of the Weinbrenner building at their meeting on Tuesday.

In short, the building is in poor condition and it was recommended that the Council not sit on it until next Winter. They also heard an update on the results seen from the City’s contract with Vandewalle & Associates for implementation of the West 2nd Street Redevelopment Plan. The City Administrator provided an update on what progress has been made with that project so far.

The Council also approved the Municipal Court Judge Selection Team recommendation for the temporary appointment of Krista James to the position of Municipal Court Judge with the term ending after a special election is held.

Finally, the Council voted to table authorizing a contract with Eventures Presents for entertaining purchasing consulting services related to the 2026 Wenzel Family Plaza concert series. The Council wanted more information from partners with the concert series, Parks and Rec, and other entities before a decision is reached.

In approving the minutes of the various Committee meeting from the past couple weeks, the Council approved three items from the Board of Public Works meeting including authorize RFP for Columbia Bandshell project, accept proposal for engineering services for Lincoln Avenue lift station project, authorize RFP for Braem Park Wet Detention Basin project.

During the Mayor’s Comments she mentioned voting for the February 17th election and the Cultural Fair happening at UW-SP at Marshfield next weekend. During the City Administrator’s comments, he mentioned the Strategic Planning Meetings scheduled for the beginning of March.

During the Council’s Comments, an alderman mentioned a Super Bowl ad from Thorogood shoes that mentioned Marshfield. Finally, during the public comment, a resident on the Historic Preservation Commission read a statement from the Commission regarding the Weinbrenner Shoe Factory.
