(Mike Leischner, WSAU) A Wisconsin Rapids woman has been accused of her 8th OWI after a routine traffic stop in Marathon County on Tuesday.
According to Mike Leischner with WSAU, State Patrol troopers stopped a 2014 Mazda for speeding on Interstate 39 near Locker Road and immediately noticed signs of impairment during their interaction with the driver.
Georgia Ring then failed a field sobriety test and was arrested and booked into the Marathon County Jail, where she is being held on a probation violation along with an 8th offense OWI.
Records show her previous OWI convictions date back to 2009. She was also convicted of felony recklessly endangering safety in 1998 and served probation as part of a withheld sentence.
She appeared in a Marathon County courtroom this afternoon, where a judge set her bond at $5,000 cash with several conditions, including absolute sobriety and no possession of alcohol.
An 8th OWI offense is a Class F felony, punishable by up to 12.5 years in prison and $50,000 in fines. She’ll return to court on Friday for a review hearing.
