(Tom Loucks/Communications Director) The City of Marshfield’s continued participation in the MACCI Leadership program is an investment in civic education and future leadership.
According to Tom Loucks, Communications Director with the City of Marshfield, earlier this month, Leadership Marshfield participants visited City Hall and the Wastewater Treatment Plant, designed to provide a hands-on look at how local government works.
By directly engaging with City staff and operations, the program helps demystify municipal government and reinforces that resident involvement truly matters. Leadership Marshfield is an eight-month program that identifies current and emerging community leaders and provides training to strengthen their ability to serve as effective leaders.
Exposure to how City government functions encourages participants to see themselves as part of the process, not just observers. This understanding can spark long-term civic engagement, whether through serving on a City commission or board, volunteering, voting, or even considering a future run for Common Council.
“We thank MACCI for including the City as part of its leadership program,” said City Clerk Jessica Schiferl. “It gives participants a better understanding of the complexity of local government and the important role it plays in the community.”
By building these relationships early, the City helps cultivate informed and engaged residents who are better prepared to contribute thoughtfully to Marshfield’s decision-making and leadership for years to come.
