Governor Evers Signs Executive Order Extending Energy Emergency

(WBAY) Gov. Tony Evers signed an executive order extending the energy emergency in Wisconsin for a second time.
Evers says the declaration will support “swift and efficient delivery” of home heating fuel, including heating oil and propane, by letting drivers work longer hours and waiving weight limit restrictions on state roads. The governor first declared an energy emergency in early December, and he extended it on Dec. 22.
The order is in effect until Feb. 2. “By extending this emergency order, we’re keeping these fuels moving to those who need it and ensuring Wisconsinites remain warm and safe this winter,” the governor said in a statement. “The health and safety of our neighbors remains our top priority, and these folks depend on access to these essential resources.”
The energy emergency is blamed on a disruption in the Midwestern pipeline distribution system and high demand for residential heating fuel in what has been a colder-than-normal winter so far.
The Wisconsin Public Service Commission says multiple fuel suppliers are reporting ongoing difficulty getting their products, requiring them to drive longer distances to get supplies.
