Wausau Man Reaches Plea Deal for Attempted Sexual Assault of a Child

(Mike Leischner, WSAU) A Wausau man has reached a plea deal with prosecutors for a pair of charges related to a 2021 incident in which he attempted to meet an underage girl for sex.
According to Mike Leischner with WSAU, Jason Olerich pleaded no contest to attempted sexual assault of a child and child enticement. Three drug-related charges were then dismissed but read into the record.
The deal closes a case that dates back to early 2021. Police made contact with the 43-year-old through a messenger app, posing as an underage girl. The conversation turned sexual, and Olerich attempted to get them to meet up for a night of drugs and sex.
Officers reminded him that they were posing as an underage girl, but that didn’t stop him, and a meeting was arranged in Rothschild. He was arrested, and officers seized items including drugs, condoms, and drug paraphernalia.
Olerich was bound over for trial in May of 2021. The case has remained in progress since then, with the latest trial attempt scheduled for January 27th and 28th. Those dates have been canceled, and sentencing is now scheduled for March 24th. He faces up to 65 years in prison.
