Clark County Health Department's Environmental Health Specialist Discusses Radon

Friday, January 16th, 2026 -- 12:01 PM

The Clark County Health Department recommends residents get their homes tested for radon.

I spoke with Paige Lindner, Environmental Health Specialist with the Department, and she discussed what radon is, testing, and mitigation.

(AI assisted transcription with Otter.ai)

"Radon is a naturally occurring gas; you can't see or smell it and it is the second leading cause of lung cancer in the United States. Radon seeps into homes and buildings through the surrounding soil, but it is, luckily, reducible."

"The Clark County Health Department offers radon test kits for $10, if you pick them up at the health department, or for 18 if they need to be mailed to you. It's a very simple test. You just let the testers sit in your basement for at least two days and then you just send it in."

"It'll get analyzed. Then, once you get your results back, if they come back unsafe, there are mitigation systems that can be put in in your home to lower those radon levels."

If you have any questions about radon, testing, and mitigation, you can contact Paige at the Clark County Health Department at 743-5122 or email [email protected]
