The Marshfield Common Council discussed filling the vacant position of municipal court judge.

The municipal court judge is shared with the Village of Spencer and the Village of Stratford. The Council approved moving forward to fill that position. The Council also approved two of their members and the Mayor sitting on a joint team to review the applications received for municipal court judge, and make a recommendation to Common Council, Village of Spencer Board, and Village of Stratford Board.

The Council did deny a motion by HR to seek proposals for professional recruitment services, asking for $50,000 for the vacant position of Public Works Director. The Council also had a long discussion on the next steps for the redevelopment of the Weinbrenner Shoe Factory facility.

The general consensus was that the City should go back to the original RFQ and see if they can find someone willing to take on the project. They also discussed the importance of getting the building off their hands due to heating costs and maintenance.

But it was also stated they need more information before any final decisions can be made. The Council also continued to discuss Strategic Planning and trying to find a time to complete that process.

During the approval of the consent agenda, the Council approved a few items from the various committee meetings the past couple weeks including resolution No. 2025-42, Weinbrenner Master Sign Plan, Grant Reserve “Class B” alcohol license to The Grey Dog, LLC, and New Policy No. 4.331, Funding Source Priority.

During the Mayor’s comments she wished everyone a Happy New Year and attended the Eagle Scout Court of Honor for two Marshfield students. During the City Administrator’s comments, he mentioned some upcoming special council meetings regarding strategic planning had been cancelled.

Also, he provided an update on the airport terminal building project. During staff updates, the Council heard an update on how to avoid overages on projects. During the reports from commissions, they heard an update on what the Housing Committee is doing.

Finally, during appearances, they heard from a resident regarding housing in the city and another regarding the Weinbrenner building.
