OBAMA'S TURN

Tuesday, January 20th, 2009 -- 2:17 PM

Barack Obama is the 44th President of the United States.

It was quite a scene on the National Mall in Washington D.C. as an estimated 2-million people witnessed the swearing-in ceremony.

Educators around the country are using the event as a ?teachable moment?.

Neillsville 5th grade teacher Monika Luebke played a video feed of the inauguration on the projector screen of her classroom.

"We've talked about U.S. history, we've talked about civil rights, we've gone through the whole election process." Luebke said, "We're talking about the significance of today's event."

Luebke says the class was able to vote in a mach election back in November. "Some were for Obama, some weren't," she said.

Some Neillsville High School students were allowed to watch the event in the library. Jodi Stitt, 18, said she was excited about the Obama presidency.

"I'm very excited for it. I think Barack Obama is going to do justice for our country," she said.

She voted for the first time in November and is hopeful things will improve in the next four years. "With George Bush, I was never really a big fan, so I didn't pay as much attention to it."

When asked how she would define a successful presidency, Stitt replied, "One word: change."
