Tuesday, January 20th, 2009 -- 2:03 PM

A number of area FFA members received grants from the Wisconsin FFA Foundation to help with their Supervised Agriculture Experience projects.

All tolled, the Foundation doled out more than $25,500 to 41 Wisconsin FFAers; the money is earmarked for dairy SAEs.

"We have lots of different projects," says Neillsville FFA advisor Amy Gerhardt, "I have kids that have pumpkin farms, I have kids that work in shops fixing equipment, I have kids that raise dogs and train them, I have kids that work on farms and raise cattle. It's just any agricultural project."

Five FFA members from Neillsville received a total of $3,500.

"We're very lucky. We had seven people apply; five of the seven received money. Kids are buying cattle, kids are buying clippers, kids are buying all kinds of tools to make their projects stronger," she says.

Savannah Brown, Desi Heck, Amy Heck, Matthew Heiman and Allison Wegner were awarded grants.
