Impactful Winter Storm to Hit Area

Sunday, December 28th, 2025 -- 11:00 AM

Our mild weather of the last 2 days will quickly end as a major winter storm will affect the area tonight through mid day on Monday.

The foggy conditions will be replaced by rain today with temperatures topping out in the mid 30 then falling below freezing by evening. Expect windy conditions later this afternoon with northwest winds between 15 snd 20 and gusts as high as 40 miles per hour. This will cause any liquid precipitaion that has fallen to flash freeze causing dangerous driving and walking conditions especially on untreated surfaces like sidewalks, parking lots and secondary roads.

The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Warning for much of northern, central and south central Wisconsin north of Wisconsin Highway 33 from 3 pm today untill noon on Monday. Blizzard Conditions expected in the Lake Superior snow belt and in areas of Central Minnesota making travel hazardous.

Rain will transition to snow late this afternoon into this evening from west to east across Wisconsin. Depending on how fast the changeover occurs, snow totals are expected to be in the 5 to 9 inch range across central Wisconsin by early Monday morning. The strong northwest winds will continue through the morning hours on Monday and diminish in the afternoon. This will impact your Monday morning commute.

Consider delaying or adjusting travel plans for the evening and overnight hours tonight. If you must travel, be prepared with a winter travel pack which includes a blanket, shovel, food and extra clothing incase you get stranded.
