Thursday, December 11th, 2025 -- 1:01 PM

Marshfield Medical Center in Marshfield and Marshfield Medical Center-Weston were named Best Hospitals for Maternity Care by U.S. News & World Report for 2026.

They are the only two hospitals in central Wisconsin to earn this recognition. U.S. News evaluated more than 900 hospitals providing labor and delivery services for its ratings released Dec. 9.

Overall, 495 hospitals made the final list. U.S. News provides information on hospitals to aid parents-to-be in their search to find the best hospitals for an uncomplicated pregnancy because there are many factors to consider when choosing where to have a baby.

“Adding a newborn to your family is a special occasion and our hospitals provide a safe and welcoming environment,” said Marshfield Clinic region of Sanford Health CEO and President Dr. Brian Hoerneman. “This is terrific recognition of the great care our OB teams provide to growing families in central Wisconsin.”

U.S. News evaluates how well hospitals perform in childbirth using C-section rates, newborn severe complication rates, routine vaginal birth after cesarean delivery rates, episiotomy rates, best practices to support breast milk feeding, whether a hospital meets federal criteria for "birthing-friendly" practices, and whether a hospital tracked and reported disparities in outcomes.

Marshfield Medical Center has delivered more than 900 babies so far in 2025 and Marshfield Medical Center-Weston has delivered 335 babies.
