Marshfield Rotary Member Releases Children’s Book

Local creative professional and Marshfield Rotary member Ben Bauer has released his debut children’s book, Mary’s Bright Idea, a heartwarming story inspired by the wonder, generosity, and community spirit behind Marshfield’s annual holiday light display.

The story follows a young girl named Mary as she experiences a magical winter light show and discovers the deeper meaning behind the event: kindness, service, and helping others.

Through gentle storytelling and beautiful illustrations by artist Kylie Ganther, the book encourages children and families to find small ways to make a big difference. Bauer, who has long been active in the local Rotary community, wrote the book as both a celebration of the season and a tribute to the volunteers and families who bring the event to life each year.

“This book grew out of my love for our community and the incredible impact of service-minded people working together,” Bauer said. “I wanted to create something joyful that kids could enjoy, while also honoring the real purpose behind the event that inspired it: helping those in need. I’m grateful for how it turned out and excited for the good it can do.”

In the spirit of Rotary’s motto, “Service Above Self,” Bauer is donating all net proceeds from the book to The Rotary Foundation and the Marshfield Rotary Foundation, supporting ongoing community projects, hunger relief efforts, and local service initiatives.
