REPORT: STANLEY PRISON NEEDS WORK
Friday, January 9th, 2009 -- 11:29 AM
A local prison didn?t do so well in a new analysis. The study by a consulting firm says security systems at Stanley Prison are in poor condition.
For instance, the nearest technician for the security system is in Oklahoma, exterior controlled doors don't work during the winter and the outdoor cameras have zero visibility on sunny days.
One recommendation calls for the construction of a ?stun fence,? which would shock inmates that attempt to escape.
The study also calls for a $1.6 million new armory and training building.
Overall, the study says Wisconsin's prisons will need more than $1.2 billion in improvements over the next decade to keep up with a growing number of inmates.
