Thursday, January 8th, 2009 -- 11:15 AM
The flu bug has hit particularly hard at an elementary school in Waupaca County, but local officials say they aren?t seeing the same problems here.Except for early childhood and pre-kindergarten classes, Manawa Elementary School will be closed for the rest of the week while everything from light switches to telephones are disinfected.
There are 250 children at Manawa Elementary. 50 were absent Wednesday. Another 15 students were sent home.
District Administrator Deb Watry says she talked with state and county health officials, who recommended closing the school for 48 hours.
Classes are still being held at Manawa's middle and high schools.
Jessica Thomsen of the Clark County Health Department says they get weekly reports from local school nurses, and haven?t noticed anything out of the ordinary.
She says influenza activity in the western region of the state is categorized as ?low?.
