STANLEY RESIDENTS CAN TAKE THE BUS

Wednesday, January 7th, 2009 -- 11:37 AM

The City of Stanley is getting some state help to continue a new daily bus route.

A number of communities along STH 29 have contracted with Jefferson Bus Lines for the daily route that links the Twin Cities to Milwaukee, via STH 29 and I-43.

"It's my understanding that it's being used by our people. Before it was up and running, we had quite a few requests for it," explains Stanley City Clerk/Treasurer Diane Zais. "I just think it's a good thing for all of us."

The service just started in July. Zais says it?s probably a bit under-advertised, but that will change.

"It started late last year. They haven't gotten enough advertising out. It's a very nice bus. It's kind of exciting to use the service," she says.

The Supplemental Transportation Rural Assistance Program (STRAP) grant totals $642,592. Zais says state monies cover virtually all of the city?s cost of the program.

Other stops on the route include Minneapolis, the University of Minnesota, St. Paul, Menomonie, Eau Claire, Chippewa Falls, Abbotsford, Wausau, Wittenburg, Shawano, Green Bay, Manitowoc, Sheboygan, and Milwaukee.
