(Mike Leischner, WSAU) Marathon County Clerk Kim Trueblood has been named to the RightCount Wisconsin Leadership Advisory Council, according to Mike Leischner with WSAU.
“Our goal is to educate as many folks as we can [on] how our election processes work,” said Trueblood. “[People need to know] that their Clerks are on the job, well-trained, and are doing their job to keep our elections safe and secure.” Trueblood says rumors or misinformation can quickly damage the public’s trust in the election process, and the easiest way to counter that is through education.
“We have made great strides in the last couple of years, and the goal is to continue that- to get the word out to folks that our elections are very well-run. People can have confidence in them.”
She says many members of the Advisory Council have been working to tighten up Wisconsin’s election laws by eliminating redundancies, clearing up language, and getting rid of laws that no longer apply.
“They used to apply to the way we did things back in the day, but now they are kind of obsolete. We’re trying to clean up the laws as much as possible, just to give people every confidence that when they go to cast their ballot, whether it’s absentee, in-person absentee, or at the polls on election day, that their vote is going to be counted,” added Trueblood.
Trueblood was one of five people added to the council on Thursday. The list also included Wausau-area Representative Pat Snyder and former Wisconsin Attorney General JB Van Hollen. Others on the council include Representatives Scott Krug and Tony Kurtz, Oconto County Clerk Kim Pytleski, and former State Representative Donna Rozar.
The new year will bring as many as four election days in Wisconsin, including the Spring Election on April 7th and the Mid-Term Election on November 3rd. Primaries, if needed, will be conducted in February and August.
Next year’s Mid-Term will contain an open Governor’s race, which will likely require both a Republican and Democratic primary. The 7th Congressional District seat will also be open; that race is also trending towards an August primary.
