Wisconsin Rapids Water Works & Lighting Commission Working to Develop Solar Project
Tuesday, November 18th, 2025 -- 8:00 AM
(Brad Miller, WAOW) The Wisconsin Rapids Water Works & Lighting Commission (WW&LC) is partnering with Great Lakes Utilities (GLU) and OneEnergy Renewables (OER) to develop a 5MW solar project in Wisconsin Rapids.
According to Brad Miller with WAOW, the project aims to diversify local power sources and provide long-term financial benefits to ratepayers. The solar project, set to be completed in 2027, will use approximately 27 acres of city-owned land.
It is expected to generate about 10.5 million kilowatt-hours annually, enough to power around 1,300 homes. Energy cost savings will be shared among WW&LC electricity users. OneEnergy Renewables will oversee the development and operation of the project, which will have a lifespan of 30-40 years.
The City will hold a public hearing on December 1, 2025, to discuss rezoning the land for solar use. Community participation is encouraged. Further information regarding the Solar Project can be obtained on the city's project page HERE
