Wood County Sheriff's Employees Testify Before the State Elder Abuse Task Force

Investigative Lt. Scott Goldberg and Investigative Sgt. Daniel Berres with the Wood County Sheriff’s Department had the opportunity to testify in front of the Elder Abuse Task Forces last week at the Wisconsin Capital.

The testimony was in reference to how cryptocurrency kiosks are being used as a tool to scam members of the community. The scammers often target the elderly within the community along with other vulnerable adults.

These kiosks are found throughout Wood County and the State of Wisconsin with no laws in place to regulate them Many states throughout the Country have been proactive and have attached laws to these kiosks to protect their communities.

The Wood County Sheriff’s Department supports a law being put into place to help prevent any more of these scams taking place. If you or someone you know have been victimized by a scam, please report it to your local law enforcement.
