Marathon County Announces Appointment of New Corporation Counsel

Marathon County Administrator Lance Leonhard has announced the appointment of Brian Desmond as the new Corporation Counsel for Marathon County.
Desmond officially began his duties on October 20. Desmond brings more than two decades of legal experience in county government. Most recently, he served as Corporation Counsel for Sauk County for four and a half years. Prior to that, he spent 17 years with the Oneida County Corporation Counsel’s Office, including 15 years as Corporation Counsel.
“The role of Corporation Counsel is essential to the success of our organization and the community we serve,” shared County Administrator Lance Leonhard. “Brian brings a strong track record of public service, deep legal expertise, and a collaborative approach that will serve Marathon County well. We’re pleased to welcome him to the team and look forward to the leadership he will bring to this role.”
Desmond has also served as President of the Wisconsin Association of County Corporation Counsels, a role he held for three years. Outside of his professional life, he enjoys cycling, fishing, and hunting. He and his wife are looking forward to relocating to Marathon County and exploring all the area has to offer.

Desmond completed his undergraduate studies in 2000 at Western Michigan University where he majored in Political Science, with a Public Law concentration. He went on to graduate from the Valparaiso University School of Law in 2003.
