No Cell Phones at Wausau West

(Michael Crow, WSAU) Wausau West is ahead of the game when it comes to cell phone policies.
According to Michael Crow with WSAU, the Wisconsin senate just approved a bill for cell phones to be banned for next year, but West already had a ban in place this current year.
Curt Richardt, Principal of Wausau West, had this to say, “I had hoped that a state ban or a state wide cell phone ban would take place before us needing to do it, I thought that would be important to have in our back pocket, like, everyone in the state is doing it, but in the end it got to be too much, and we just needed to do it, and then the year they do it they do this. Overall, it’s been pretty successful.”
During the school day, phones need to be put in a phone pouch at the beginning of class, or they need to be put away in students' backpacks. Richardt made a comment that the kids have been great at handling these changes.
Students who get caught with their cell phone will have to give their phone to the main office for the rest of the school day. The state ban will take place next year, and schools have until July of 2026 to come up with a plan for their cell phone policy.
