SIDIE BOUND OVER FOR TRIAL
Thursday, December 18th, 2008 -- 8:37 AM
A judge ruled there is ?probable cause? that Douglas Sidie murdered his ex-wife early last month. The ruling came after a preliminary hearing yesterday. The 39-year-old Hatfield man is charged with homicide, hiding a corpse and nine misdemeanor charges stemming from the November 7th shooting death of his wife, Alisha.
Not guilty pleas were entered on behalf of Sidie after La Crosse County Circuit Judge Dale Pasell bound him over for trial.
Four witnesses testified during the preliminary hearing Wednesday, including three members of law enforcement and a deputy coroner.
Authorities say Sidie admitted shooting his ex-wife after an argument outside the home they shared with their 2-year-old twin boys. He reported her missing the next day, touching off a weeklong search that ended Nov. 15 when he led authorities to a wooded area south of Hatfield where her body was found.
Sidie?s attorney, John Brinckman, claimed his client acted after Alisha threatened to kill his 8-year-old child from a previous relationship.
It was also revealed authorities believe Sidie initially hid the body in a marshy area, but moved it after realizing it was visible from the road.
He remains held without bond.
After the hearing, Sidie?s attorney filed a motion for a substitute judge.
