Representative Karen Hurd (R-Withee) honored Clark County first responder Roger Nitschke as the 69th Assembly District’s First Responder of the Year.

He was recognized along with first responders from across Wisconsin during the Assembly floor session today. “I received a number of excellent nominations from throughout the 69th District for this year’s First Responder of the Year Award, and it was incredibly difficult to pick just one person,” said Rep. Hurd.

“After reviewing the nominations, it is clear that our district is blessed with many outstanding first responders. It is my honor to select Roger as the First Responder of the Year for the 69th Assembly District.”

The citizens of the 69th District who nominated Roger shared that he has served the Granton community in many ways for 51 years and counting. He is an active member of the Granton Fire Department, where he served as secretary for 11 years and assistant chief for 25 years.

Nominators said that Roger is always looking over the fire scene and directing personnel to where they are needed most. He also serves as a mentor to the next generation of volunteer firefighters. In addition to his service as a first responder, Roger also serves as an elder and church council officer at Zion American Lutheran Church and is a member of the Granton FFA Alumni.

“Granton is fortunate to have someone like Roger, who gives so much to the community,” said Rep. Hurd. “On behalf of the people of the 69th District, it is a privilege to recognize him for his many years of public service.”

In addition to the presentation of the First Responder of the Year Awards, both houses of the Legislature adopted Assembly Joint Resolution 99, declaring October 14th as First Responders Appreciation Day in Wisconsin.
