UW-Stevens Point Launching Student Support Services Program

Friday, October 10th, 2025 -- 8:00 AM

The University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point is launching a Student Support Services (SSS) Program, a transformative initiative designed to help students reach their full potential through personalized academic and personal support.

Part of the federal TRIO family of programs, SSS is dedicated to assisting students who are first generation, low-income or have disabilities. Funded through a five-year $1.3 million U.S. Department of Education grant, this new program expands the university’s efforts to promote student achievement, belonging, retention and ultimately graduation.

The SSS program will provide qualified students with individualized academic advising, tutoring, mentoring, financial literacy education, study skills and career development opportunities. It also offers access to wellness resources and community building activities that foster their personal and academic success.

“By addressing barriers to success and offering holistic support, the program equips students with the skills, confidence and community they need to thrive at UWSP,” said Samantha Samreth, director of the Office of Student Experience and Transformation (SET).

The grant will support a program director, an academic adviser, a success coach, peer tutors and peer success coaches who will work together to deliver individualized student support. The SSS office will be in the Dreyfus University Center concourse, offering a central and welcoming space for students to connect and thrive.

Beginning in spring 2026, up to 140 undergraduate students will have the opportunity to participate in the program. Program goals include increasing student retention, maintaining good academic standing, and boosting graduation rates.

“The launch of the Student Support Services Program underscores UWSP’s ongoing commitment to ensuring equitable access to resources that promote student excellence,” said Al Thompson, vice chancellor for Students Affairs.

“Through this SSS program, UWSP reaffirms its dedication to student success and to fostering an environment where every learner can achieve their highest potential.” To learn more about the Student Support Services Program, email [email protected].
