Marshfield Altrusa Group Holding “Night for Literacy” at Hop & Grape on October 30th

Thursday, October 9th, 2025 -- 11:01 AM

On Thursday, October 30th, the Marshfield Altrusa group is holding “Hop Into Reading; It’s Grape” Event at Hop & Grape in Marshfield.

The event will support literacy. I spoke with Jennifer Lurvey and she discussed the Marshfield Altrusa group in more detail as well as their event on October 30th.

Listen to the Interview with Jennifer Here!

Once again, that event is being held on October 30th from 4pm-9pm at Hop & Grape in Marshfield.

Jennifer: "Altrusa is a service organization, primarily started out as a woman's organization early on, when they weren't allowed to be a part of Rotary. And so they developed their own sort of business leadership organization as Altrusa, and it has grown. It is an international organization."

"We are very much concerned about literacy, women's rights, helping women with scholarships, anything they need to further their education. We've looked in our community for community service projects that relate to literacy."

"We do some fundraising so we can give back to the community various ways. Yeah, so we're a relatively small group, but we're very active in the community."

Riley: "Coming up on Thursday, October 30, you have an event coming up at Hop & Grape in Marshfield. Can you talk about that event?"

Jennifer: "Hop & Grape has given us some opportunity to do some fundraising there. They're giving us 15% of the sales that we have that evening, but we're also offering a 50/50 raffle and a basket raffle, and all of our sales and proceeds from the event are going to a new project we're starting."

"We're looking at providing a book vending machine for the ER Urgent Care pediatric waiting room, so that when kids end up in a waiting room for a long period of time, they can get a token, go to the book vending machine and pick out a book to help, you know, pass the time, give them a better interaction with their adults that are there, with the staff that are there, maybe relieve a lot of that anxiety they have just sitting there for a long period of time."

"So, we're very excited, and we're thankful for Hop & Grape for giving us this opportunity to do a fundraiser. That was very nice of them. Our event is Thursday, October 30, and it starts at four o'clock, and the sales go on until they close at 11, but our our raffles and things close at nine o'clock.

Riley: "Anything else?"

Jennifer: "We just hope people are interested in coming; just it's a great opportunity to try a variety of wines, a variety of beers. They have food available, and then you'll get to meet fellow Altrusa members and learn a little bit more about our organization. We're always looking for new members, but you know, if you're interested in providing some community service, we're a great group to work with."
