HIGHWAY SAFETY COMMITTEE MEETS
Tuesday, December 16th, 2008 -- 11:34 AM
Clark County?s Highway Safety Committee held their quarterly meeting Tuesday morning at the Courthouse. The group briefly discussed a request from an area resident to reduce the speed limit in Christie.
The small community on STH 73 has a posted speed limit of 40 mph.
Last month, a 20-month-old child wandered on to the highway there, and was struck and killed by a motorist. Reports indicate speed was not a factor in the accident.
The committee will advise the resident to contact the state DOT, which handles speed zones on state highways.
Don Walker of the Clark County Highway Department requested the committee?s liaison with the Amish community tell the Amish to be more aware when snowplows are in the area.
He said his crews can?t ?pull up? for buggies, so they need to do a better job getting out of the way of plows.
