More details about the wild ride that led to the arrest of a Chippewa Valley lawmaker.A report released Monday shows Independent Rep. Jeff Wood smashed his car into a highway sign and a snowbank before he was arrested on drunken driving and possession of marijuana charges.
The former Republican from Bloomer was arrested early Friday on charges of operating while intoxicated-first offense, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Monday, Wood apologized and gave up the chairmanship of the Assembly Ways and Means Committee.
Reports show Wood was weaving for several miles as he drove north on Interstate 90 in south central Wisconsin. He then drove off the median on the left side of the road and smashed into a yellow caution sign and a snowbank.
A truck driver who reported the hit & run crash to authorities says Wood's 1998 Buick Skylark went airborne before returning to the road.
