MARSHFIELD BANS DEER DRIVES
Monday, December 15th, 2008 -- 8:10 AM
As the city of Neillsville continues to mull its option regarding gun-deer hunting in the city limits, Marshfield moved this week to forbid even deer drives. The Marshfield Common Council voted 10-0 last week to repeal an ordinance passed in October that allowed deer drives within the city limits during the gun-deer season.
This after police reported a group of hunters had trespassed on private property within the city limits to do a drive with one hunter becoming confrontational with a land owner.
Currently, three Neillsville property owners enjoy special gun-deer hunting privileges granted through council motions dating back to the 1990s.
The council recently tabled action from a fourth variance request, and an ordinance allowing hunting on private lands 4.5-acres or larger.
The Council is also considering allowing gun-deer hunting in the Listeman Arboretum.
