Wisconsin Rapids Man Enters Plea for Domestic Disturbance Incident

Wednesday, October 1st, 2025 -- 11:01 AM

(Mike Leischner, WSAU) The Wisconsin Rapids man accused of firing a gun at police following a domestic disturbance one year ago has pleaded no contest to one count of attempted homicide.

According to Mike Leischner with WSAU, Clinton Mayotte entered the plea on Tuesday. In exchange, one count of attempted homicide was dismissed outright. Six additional counts were dismissed but read into the record, including three counts of attempted homicide and one count each of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and fleeing an officer.

The 41-year-old is accused of causing a domestic disturbance at a home in August 2024. When officers arrived at the scene, they found that the suspect had fled. They caught up with him in Portage County, but he fled that scene and returned to Wisconsin Rapids.

During that chase, he fired at officers before they disabled his vehicle in Wisconsin Rapids. Mayotte then fled on foot to the top of a building, where he fired at officers again. That led to an exchange of gunfire, which left him wounded.

Officers provided first aid until he could be taken to the hospital. The judge ordered a presentence investigation to be completed ahead of a December 15th sentencing date.

Mayotte faces life in prison with the possibility of parole after 20 years.
